The question of what format Turkey will join BRICS is becoming increasingly relevant. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently stated that the new status for future members could be designated as a “partner country”. This brings to the forefront questions about the role and participation of new countries in the association, as ideas about “full membership” were presented very cautiously.

Turkey has applied for membership in BRICS, as announced by the press service. Some officials in Ankara have already stated the country’s desire to participate in the work of this association. In particular, a representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party noted that Turkey has sent a clear request for full membership, but up to this point the authorities have limited themselves to general statements about cooperation.
